COMMUNITES CAN DEFEAT TERRORISM!

Following on from the success of our workshop based sessions, theatre presentations and teacher training packs in schools and colleges across Staffordshire, October 2010 sees the start of ‘phase two’ which will see a fresh wave of schools taking part in new and exciting workshops, lessons and interactive scenarios.

 

What we have achieved so far...
Phase One’ saw a whole host of ‘Act Now’ workshops, 35 in total, in 27 educational establishments, to over 1800 students. ‘Reveal’ and ‘GW’ theatre companies also presented their hard hitting plays based around
extremism and radicalisation. In total, more than 4000 students watched the performances and afterwards took part in a question and answer session.

 

What you can expect from the team in 2010 /11
Here is a breakdown of what your Community Resilience Team can offer your school, college, business or community group in terms of PREVENT workshops and awareness sessions.

‘ACT NOW! and Terrorism Through Time’
These interactive DVD-based workshops are where the investigation process behind a terrorist attack is explored by the audience. Working in groups, the audience is given information on a potential terrorist attack. Working with their communities, it’s a race against time to stop the attack and protect the community

THINGS DO CHANGE’
Is a ten module, teacher resource pack, available to key stage 3 and 4 teachers and designed to assist with the planning of citizenship based lessons. Modules include ‘being a good parent’, ‘earning a living’, freedom of speech v respect’ All lessons are intended to teach students core common values.

REVEAL THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS: ‘SILENT ANGER, THE WORKSHOPS’
New from October 2010!
Building on the success of the ‘Silent Anger’ workshops during the last academic year, ‘Silent Anger the Workshops’ uses snippets of the performance to explore relationships between different cultures and beliefs.

WRAP’
(Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent)
New from June 2010!
Is a workshop aimed at our professional organisations. It helps our partners in companies such as social health and care, probation and victim support, identify vulnerable individuals within our communities and ensure they are given the support they deserve so they don’t become a victim of radicalisation.

The CRT ‘Myth Buster sessions’
New for October 2010
Using a state of the art interactive voting system, audiences can voice their opinion, anonymously, on all manner of myths associated with terrorism, violent extremism, radicalisation, race and culture. The aims of the sessions are to expel some of those stereotypes attached to both Muslim and western cultures.

We also offer formal talks and introduction sessions and remember, all these resources are FREE!
